Item Description:

Welcome, everyone!

The very first BetterThanTheBay auction is that infamous Starcross saucer you've no doubt seen lurking in the background of photos of the Infocom collection I acquired in the fall of 2013. It's for IBM PC, but due to the age of the media and the fact that I don't currently have a working 5.25" drive to test it on, it is being sold as-is, with no guarantee to still work.

(Click on any of these images to see a larger version.)

The outer saucer is in decent shape considering its age, but the plastic does have some yellowing which is more pronounced in the lower half. There's a significant dent in the silver area, and I took a picture with the flash to try and illustrate it, but it didn't show up nearly as well as I was hoping. The plastic hanger at the top is still intact. There is no system sticker, as that was originally on the outside of the wrap, which is long gone.
The dent doesn't show up too well from the side either, but you can see how the plastic is sort of pressed in when compared to the top part (on the right). Also note the smaller dent near the second set of ridges on the top part, across from the plastic hanger loop. You can also see a crack in the plastic at the bottom of the image, and on the inner rim of the saucer where some bits of plastic are broken away.
The inside of the saucer looks good overall. The circular piece of styrofoam padding is intact and the dent is not very visible on this side. This image gives you a good view of the minor cracks and chips around the rim of the saucer.
The bottom paperboard cover of the saucer is in better shape than the top half, with some cracks and creases, mostly on the lower left side. The pull-tab at the top, used to open the saucer, is intact with no fraying or tearing.
The game disk's label is in excellent shape, with no spotting or discoloration. The manual is noticeably creased at the corners. I've seen this numerous times before, and it appears to be a side effect of the round packaging. Also note that there is no catalog.
Similar to the manual, the star chart also has some creasing at the corners, but is in otherwise good condition. The chart of course is the same one included in the grey box packaging, just folded differently.
This is just a picture of the map that didn't take properly, but I thought it looked cool enough to share. Psychedelic, mannnn!

Overall, I would rate this item [G/G(MMC)] by Mobyscale standards. Not the best, admittedly, but how often do you see these turn up for sale, let alone a PC copy? Since BetterThanTheBay is just getting off the ground, I'm leaving this up for 30 days so more people have a chance to see it.

Please use the links below to determine your postage cost. You only pay the base postage. Full insurance is included, and I'll cover that. International buyers, this means I will be declaring the full value on the customs form. I will not ship this item uninsured, or insured for less than the full value, so please do not ask.

Any questions about the saucer, please ask. Any questions about BetterThanTheBay in general, check here first, and if that doesn't answer it for you, please ask.

Thanks for visiting!
