The Alpine Encounter
by Random House
(Box package)
An obscure split-screen text/graphic adventure, set at a ski resort with a spy thriller motif. Published by Random House in 1985, but developed by a company called "ibidinc". Penguin's Graphics Magician was used to create the static pictures.
While it has the same look and feel as earlier games of this type -- the S.A.G.A.s, the Sierra Hi-Res Adventures -- Alpine Encounter permits full-sentence commands and features a game clock and characters who move around on their own. Like Infocom's mysteries, you have to replay the game enough to be in the right place at the right time, to catch all the clues. Also built into the adventure is an arcade skiing game.
