Cyborg
by Sentient Software
(Sentient release)
Sentient's Cyborg was one of the first I-F games to break away from
the established fantasy dungeon-crawling, treasure-hunting motif. Its plot
concerns an artificial intelligence, electronically merged with the player's
body as the result of a scientific experiment. Author Michael Berlyn
founded Sentient after he became a published science-fiction author (The
Integrated Man, Crystal Phoenix, Blight),
and his background is evident here.
The interface for Cyborg is the usual two-word parser of early
adventure games, but its presentation, the player directing the
computerized portion of his body, lends it a unique feel. Shades of
Suspended. Character conversation is handled by choosing
questions from a predetermined list.
